Beverages and Your Body – Why is staying hydrated so important?
Why Drink Water?
Whether you are an athlete or just a busy person, hydration is the key to health. Water regulates your body temperature and lubricates your joints. Simply put, it helps us run smoothly. Water transports valuable nutrients to our bodies that help to give you energy and keep you healthy.
When you aren’t hydrated, your body simply cannot function at its optimal level. You can get tired, fatigued, you can experience muscle cramps, dizziness, you can even suffer from more serious conditions.
I speak from experience here. Last spring, I went to the ER because I had a headache that would not go away. It was not quite a migraine, not a fever, but nothing I took to relieve it – not even my trusted essential oils – worked. I was scared something much more serious was going on. I headed to the ER, had the battery of testing and was told……”you’re dehydrated”. End of story. My lack of hydration had driven my body to the brink of total collapse and I had no idea what was happening. I began to hydrate in earnest and I increased my water intake to 80 ounces every day. The change was almost immediate and I felt TONS better!
You want to be healthy and you do everything you can to eat right, exercise and practice healthy habits. But don’t leave out water! After all, it is the essence of life!
